 April 2007 Vol 2. No 3
Dear Workforce3 One Community:
Welcome to the April edition of Driven by Demand, Workforce3 One's news and information update. As we watch the seasons change and flowers beginning to bloom and grow, we are naturally reminded of this month's theme: STEM. Of course, the STEM we are referring to is the category of efforts to improve education and workforce development programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. STEM was featured in the American Competitiveness Initiative to support educational development and progress in the STEM fields at all academic levels.

In the spirit of planting many seeds and watching the flowers bloom, we encourage readers of this publication to send us examples of innovative STEM programs and initiatives, or any other related practices that could be featured on Workforce3 One. In particular, we are looking for examples of systemic partnerships in local areas that are implementing STEM workforce education strategies together with educational providers and local industry. To share your ideas, go to: http://www.workforce3one.org/members/sections/suggest/

In this edition:

Inside Workforce3 One: Solutions for STEM
  • MentorLinks: Advancing Technological Education: The American Association of Community Colleges created this program with support from The National Science Foundation to develop and strengthen training programs in the science, technology, engineering and mathematical fields.
  • Changing the Culture of Math and Science: This report investigates the challenges confronting math and science education from the perspective of culture change and a call to action to implement a plan that will increase student "demand" for and achievement in mathematics and science and demand occupations.
