My name is Mohamed Ahmed I’m from Southwest Minnesota.
First of all, I would like to thank the distinguished Legislators, who are here today.
I also like to thank ABE Educators who are here today as well, thank you for your hard work. Without you we would not be where we are today.
I also like to thank my fellow learners, who are here today and who showed interest in learning how the legislative process works in this country, and especially in our state of Minnesota.
I’m very proud to say we are fortunate to be in this country and to stand up and say what we believe is right.
Literacy brought me many successes especially in the areas of employment and opened new doors of opportunities to better myself and my family. Critical to building my new life, and contributing positively as community member and Citizen, is literacy.
When I meet new Immigrants, I see their struggles every day, and I remember my own and can’t imagine what we would have done without the helped of the Adult Basic Education Program.
My teachers not only helped me get my GED, but also connected me to important resources, coached me, cared about me, and gave me hope to keep going during tough times, after all I consider them as part of my family.
So, my fellow Minnesotans the need for ABE Program is even greater today because thousands of Adult Minnesotans depend on each day to better themselves and their families and they need all the help they can get.
I would leave you with a quote from one of our greatest Presidents this country ever had Mr. John F. Kennedy he said,
“Let us think of Education as the means of developing our greatest abilities, because in each of us there is a private hope and dream which fulfilled, can be translated into benefit for everyone and greater strength for our nation.”
