These announcements are posted on the internet.  If you do not receive them or cannot open the links, go to the website and read the announcements on-line.




1.  Time Sheets - The next payroll period will cover October 15th to October 31st.  Time sheets are due by noon on Thursday, November 2nd.  Be sure that you are submitting time sheets on the 1st and 15th schedule.  DO NOT hold on to your hours for an entire month.  Remember, you can submit time sheets via email and by fax.  Our fax number is 507-537-7047.



2.  October Attendance, CASAS & Intakes - are due in the office by Thursday, November 2nd.

*  Once October attendance is entered into the data system, you will be receiving instructions on exiting students for the first quarter.  Please be sure to stay on top of your CASAS testing so when this time comes you will be able to give level change information/and entry level information.

* Intakes - Be sure that you are having students answer the question about when they arrived in the US.  This is especially important if the student is here under Refugee status.
3.  Consortium Staff Meeting - The Fall consortium staff meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 14th.  The meal will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the meeting agenda to begin at 5:00 p.m.  We expect that all of the business will be completed by 8:00 p.m.  The agenda is being finalized and will be sent prior to the meeting.  Please RSVP to Barb no later than Friday, November 10th.  Thank you.

8.  Toyota Family Literacy Teacher of the Year Award - Presented by the National Center for Family Literacy (NCFL) and Toyota.  The Toyota Family Literacy Teacher of the Year Award is given to educators who demonstrate exemplary efforts to help parents and children achieve their academic and non-academic goals.

     - The 2007 Toyota Family Literacy Teacher of the Year will receive a $5,000 award for his/her program, courtesy of Toyota. He/she also will receive a trip to the 16th Annual National Conference on Family Literacy in Orlando, Florida, March 2007, where he/she will be recognized as the "Toyota Family Literacy Teacher of the Year."

     - Several finalists also will be selected and will receive free registration to the 16th Annual National Conference on Family Literacy plus hotel and travel expenses.

10.  From Bella Hanson - We still have openings for teachers in the Practitioner Research Project.  Come and join ABE colleagues in this exciting project.  You will do research with your students around a strategy you use or are thinking about using in teaching reading.  You will receive a stipend of $500 and reimbursement for travel and overnight stay if needed. 


Teachers find this research to be excellent professional development.  To quote one teacher: "I've always been inquisitive -- a teacher willing to try new things.  But doing research of this kind caused me to reflect on my teaching more and modeled ways of experimenting that are more intensive and thorough."

14.  From Lois Schmidt - Several of you received this notice via University of MN Extension list; so you're in the know about this upcoming program;  I want to send it out also to inform others as well.

See attached news release on the Tuesday, November 14 Community Networking Program.  Lynn Schultz from Schwan's University will be presenting:  "It's About Time....Management."  The program will be at Schwan's University; 8:00 a.m. - 9:15 a.m.

15.  Coats for Kids in Marshall:  To participate in the Coats for Kids program a person must call Western Community Action at 537-1416..............ask to register for the Coats for Kids program and they will take down name, size, and contact information.   No paper registration as done in the past will be accepted.
