Remember - all correspondence needs to be addressed to:

1.   'I would like to thank all staff for their participation in our Friday, December 7th meeting.  I believe that we have some excellent ideas to consider regarding how to develop new markets in our area.   Please remember, if you have any more ideas or would like share your feelings as to how that meeting went.........send them to me!'    Pat
Attached is all the information that was pulled off our sheets and all little sticky notes:

- SW ABE-Marshall Region Building Strength Plan - Top Results   (MS Word document here)
- Random Sticky Note Ideas   (MS Word document here)

2.    Time sheets for December 1 - 15th are due to Barb by noon on Monday, December 17th.  Any Requests for Reimbursements should also be turned in then.

3.      December Holidays
          *  Christmas Break - We will follow the school breaks for the ABE Christmas Break.  For Marshall that will mean no classes December 24th through January 1st.  Classes will resume on
Wednesday, January 2, 2008!  The office will be closed on December 24/25 and January 1st.  Otherwise someone should be around.

4.     CASAS Post Testing - A reminder that it might be wise to post test your students before the holiday break.  Right now our percentage for level changes is only at 14%.  It should be closer to 33%.  So, we have a long way to go.

5.    Inclement weather - It's that time of the year again when we need to be aware of the Inclement weather policy.  If your school is cancelled, has an early dismissal or late start due to the weather, your adult basic education class will follow suit.

6.  12th Annual Minnesota Development Conference: McElroy Speaks about SEED Initiative, now live on the web:

This is the 16th edition of "Positively Minnesota: Partners for Job Growth," a newsletter by, for and about the Workforce Investment Boards and other essential partners. This newsletter aims to provide a useful forum for the exchange of ideas and an effective venue for clarifying goals and policies.  We welcome your comments and suggestions, and we'll try to address them in future editions of the newsletter. Please send your comments to

7.   The Minnesota Literacy Council is now accepting submissions of original student writing, poetry, and art work for the 2008 edition of Journeys: Stories and Poems to Open Your Mind. Submissions are due by 4:30 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2008 (late submissions will not be accepted).   Journeys is a collection of writing and art work by learners in Minnesota adult literacy programs. This publication serves a variety of purposes including:
  • recognizing learners for their accomplishments in writing;
  • motivating learners to continue to improve their literacy skills and achieve their academic goals;
  • providing a teaching resource to volunteers and teachers to use in Adult Basic Education (ABE) instruction; and
  • increasing awareness of adult literacy needs in Minnesota.

 We welcome submissions from learners of all levels.

Please note the following important submission requirements:

1. All submissions must be in electronic form (art work excepted) and submitted via email using the official Student Entry Form, which is attached to this email and available on the internet at the MLC web site. Go to and click on the link in the sidebar to open and save a copy to your computer.
2. Our editors may want to contact teachers or coordinators to request further biographical information about some of the students, so please fill in the Teacher/Coordinator contact information.
3. Please carefully follow the instructions on the Student Entry Form. Submissions that do not comply with all requirements will not be accepted.
If you have any questions, please contact Guy Haglund, email:, phone: 651.645.2277 ext. 201 or 1.800.225.READ (7323). Thank you for your interest in Journeys. We appreciate your programís participation in making this yearís publication a success!
