Remember - all correspondence needs to be addressed to:

1.    January Attendance/Intakes/CASAS
        * These are due in the office on Monday, February 4th. Once I have January's hours entered, you will receive information on exiting students you have not seen during November, December & January.
          *  Be sure you are keeping current with your CASAS testing.  Try to post test all students at least once during the year.
          *  If you have any questions from the CASAS training, be sure to ask.  AND, thanks to all who attended.  I think we came away knowing we are pretty much on track with our testing.
2.    February Dates/ Holidays
            *  Tuesday, February 5th - MN Caucus Day - No classes after 6 p.m.
            *  Monday, February 18th - Presidents Day Holiday - No classes!

3.    Barry - New resource available for downloading:  Raising Children in a New Country: An Illustrated Handbook. This booklet was created as a tool for refugee and immigrant serving agencies, as they help newcomer parents adjust to the different laws, norms and practices around raising children in the United States.  See this website:

4.     Legislators hear workforce, adult education success stories

5.    Minnesota Literacy Council E-News

6.    LDA of Minnesota has reviewed, purchased, and organized a variety of informal reading, spelling, and writing assessments appropriate for adults into a Test Bank. These assessments are now available for ABE teachers or tutor to borrow (if copyrighted) or receive as a paper copy (if permitted for classroom use)! The purpose of these informal assessments is to improve and direct literacy instruction. They are intended to supplement formal assessment with CASAS or TABE, not replace.

Attached are two files:

  1. A pdf of NetNews, an online newsletter devoted to adult literacy, focused on the Test Bank. This winter issue provides information on the use of informal assessment, brief descriptions of each informal assessment available, and the requesting procedure. The last page is a Test Bank Request Form that can be printed and then mailed or faxed to LDA.
  1. A Word document of the same Test Bank Request Form that can be edited online, saved as a file to your computer, and then sent as an email attachment to:

If you have any questions about this email, NetNews, the Test Bank, or the request procedure, email Marn Frank at

Please forward this email and the attachments to your program staff, other interested adult literacy providers, and consider making print copies for hands-on distribution.
