ABE Promising Practices - "Remember that if you are interested, you can submit a Promising Practice also.......Pat"

"Greetings from the Literacy Minnesota Professional Issues Committee!  Please share this exciting new opportunity with your colleagues.

We are happy to announce our first featured ABE Promising Practice, “Individualized Learner Intakes.”  Thank you to Ann Gilbert, Intake and Placement Specialist at Adult Options In Education in Hopkins for sharing her excellent ideas and successful procedures.  To thank her, we have sent her a $20 gift certificate to Barnes and Noble.
Get your idea in for our next month’s feature!

Do you have a great idea you would like to share with your ABE colleagues?  Are you looking for some new ideas for your ABE class or program?  The Literacy Minnesota Professional Issues Committee has developed a vehicle for sharing promising practices in the ABE field.

To submit your promising practice, follow these simple steps:

  1. Click here to download the Promising Practices template.
  2. Complete the user-friendly Microsoft Word form.
  3. Save your completed form with the Promising Practice title as the document name.
  4. Send your submission electronically to profissues@literacyminnesota.org by attaching your completed form along with any supplemental materials.

The Professional Issues Committee will review all submissions.  If your promising practice is published on the Literacy Minnesota Web site, you will:

  • Earn 3 CEU’s for your first submission in the calendar year
  • Be entered into the annual drawing for a prize at the Summer Institute
  • Have the opportunity to be selected as the monthly featured submission to receive $20 gift certificate
  • Be recognized in an e-mail to your supervisor and other ABE professionals

Access all the published promising practices by checking out the Literacy Minnesota Web site at www.literacyminnesota.org/Promising_Practices.html.
We are counting on your participation to build this valuable online tool for resource-sharing among ABE practitioners throughout Minnesota.  There is the potential for thousands of promising practices to be available to all, but you must submit your idea.  It all starts with you!

8.    From Barry Shaffer:
I just found out about two grant opportunities that you may want to consider.  See the NCFL announcement.
If your program applies, please let me know and I would be happy to write a supportive letter from the ABE office.  I will not be endorsing programs that are outside of our state-funded ABE system. I think programs within our network of consortia have a “leg-up” on the competition due to your experience with accountability procedures and a history of positive outcome performance.

       "
If any staff have ideas how this grant opportunity could work in your region, please contact your coordinator with your ideas!"  Pat

9.    Literacy Minnesota and the Minnesota Community Education Association (MCEA) are hosting their second annual summer conference focused on ABE issues.  The  ABE Statewide Summer Institute will held on the gorgeous St. John's University Campus in Collegeville August 8, 9, 10.
