Barry: As previously
announced, my office will be sponsoring a first-ever ABE
Transition To Post-Secondary Conference:
Friday,
October 5, 2007 (all day) at the University of
St. Thomas (Minneapolis campus)
Although
we had hoped to hold the conference here at MDE, we could
not find adequate space. The conference venue will now be
at the University of St. Thomas. We hope to have
registration available by the 2nd week in
September. I will send out a notice as soon as registration
opens. Since the transition to post-secondary concept is
a new initiative (with state resources added) for the ABE
field, I am hoping that all consortia will be represented at
that event. Thanks.

12. AN INVITATION
TO:
Transform 2010 Regional Summits
Loren Colman, Assistant
Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Human Services, invites
you to attend one of the three upcoming “Catch the Wave: A
Transform 2010 Regional Summit” events to be held in southwest
Minnesota:
"Minnesota is about to
experience a permanent shift in the age of our population. We
have always aged as individuals, but for the first time in
history, we will age as a society, and the effects will be
profound. Transform 2010 is a project that seeks to heighten
the sense of urgency to transform policies, infrastructures, and
services within all sectors to prepare for Minnesota’s age wave.
This summer and fall, I am convening regional summits to share
the suggestions we heard from a wide range of Minnesotans at
Transform 2010 meetings held over the past 18 months. We hope
these ideas will motivate individuals, community leaders,
businesses, providers and elected officials to take action and
transform their organizations and communities to prepare for the
aging of Minnesota. The second page of this memo includes a
list of the dates, times, and locations of the upcoming regional
summits. I invite you to join me at the Regional Summit the
best fits your calendar.
At each summit, I will present our
Blueprint for 2010, a plan to prepare Minnesota for the
dramatic demographic shifts that will begin in 2011, when the
first baby boomers turn 65. The program will also highlight
local organizations that have already taken steps to prepare for
this shift. Each summit attendee will also receive a copy of
the Blueprint for 2010, a series of fact sheets on ways to take
action, and more.
We all are aging. We all will be affected by this change, by the
aging of our society. Now is the time for each of us to take
action and prepare.
I look forward to seeing you at
one of these regional summits."
Transform 2010 Regional Summits in southwest Minnesota will be held
