Marshall Adult Education
The Minnesota Association for Continuing Adult Education has awarded the Marshall ABE the Outstanding Program Award for 2003. The following is information which is the basis for the award. The Marshall ABE program has recognized the fact that in order to be a more effective program, technology must be integrated into its delivery system. Technology enhances student learning and allows a program to share information with individuals, local agencies, and agencies statewide. Examples of ways this program has integrated technology into its delivery system include its website at www.marshalladulteducation.org and through the creation of computer books targeted to the lower ESL learner. The website includes information on all programs delivered within this consortium and is also a means to share, statewide, a scope and sequence of skills needed to be mastered at each level of ESL and ABE. The computer books address specific skills needed to be mastered at the lower ESL levels through incorporation of multi media elements such as graphics, sound, animation and text. An outgrowth of this computer book project has been the seeking and receiving of an IBM technology grant providing both software and hardware to provide a voice recognition program to assist the ESL learner.
