FEDERAL MONITORING REPORT

From Barry Shaffer
State ABE Office

Attached (the link below)  for your general information and review is the final report of the state ABE monitoring visit that was conducted by USDOE-OVAE in December 2005.  My office was required to respond to each of the recommendations that the federal team had for our program.  Our response is noted in italics below each recommendation in the report.

We are very pleased with the federal report and welcomed many of its recommendations.  We may be the only state that went through a monitoring visit like this and not receive some type of mandatory corrective action citation.  That speaks well for the degree of professionalism and “system understanding” that Minnesota ABE providers have.  Our quality delivery system was affirmed by this report.

Our responses to the recommendations represent our current plans to move forward on particular issues, but we reserve the right to modify those plans in light of changing resources or timelines.  In other words, our responses are not cast in concrete (as they would have been if we were responding to corrective actions), and we will be seeking advice and input from the field as we address the various items in the report.

You are welcomed to comment on this report, including our responses to the recommendations – send any input you have to me.  Thanks.
