The Literacy Minnesota
Legislative Committee will host a legislative forum Tuesday, February 20
from 10 a.m. -2 p.m. at the State Capitol in St. Paul.
The purpose of this forum is
three fold: To increase awareness of Literacy Minnesota's legislative agenda
among legislators; to increase our base of support amongst ABE professionals
statewide; and to provide an educational opportunity for those interested in
learning more about the legislative process (CEU's will be provided).
10-11 a.m.: An educational
session on the legislative process (CEU's will be provided to ABE
professionals; certificates will be provided for any learners who may be in
11 a.m.-12 p.m.: A boxlunch will
be provided as well as a chance to network with other ABE professionals.
12-1 p.m.: Meet your legislators
in the Capitol Rotunda area and hear inspirational stories from a couple of
1-2 p.m.: Make appointments with
your legislators (before February 20) and bring a learner to meet your
legislator. This activity is optional but is strongly encouraged.
ABE professionals (teachers,
volunteers, support staff, managers/coordinators). Your participation as ABE
professionals is needed to increase legislative support at an critical
juncture in the legislative session.
We encourage some learner
participation---two or three learners from each program who may be
interested in learning about the legislative process. THIS EVENT IS NOT A
