Tech Tip: Google Pages
We’ve covered the many exploits of Google over the years…like...
Google Telephone Directory
Here is the latest…Google Pages.
Google is offering free home pages with their new Google Page Creator. With Google Page Creator, you can create, design and publish your own web page in a simple straightforward user friendly interface. There are dozens of templates and layout designs to choose from. You can do all the usual things that web masters and gurus do – all with no web page creating experience.
You will get 100 MB of web space – that’s huge – and you will notice that there is no advertising banners on the web pages. There is no software to download. The web pages are created using your web browser (Internet Explorer).
This feature of Google is in beta mode right now which means it is being tested and refined. You need to get a Gmail account which is a free email account. Then you can sign up for your free home page. Depending on how many people are signing up, you may be put on a waiting list. They are phasing in their new accounts.
I already have my free site. It’s pretty primitive right now – everything you see there took me a grand total of 5 minutes to create. Go to page 2 and you will find a link to sign up for your free home page. You can check out my Google home page here.
Is there a downside to all this neat stuff? Yes – and no. Here’s the downside which isn’t really a downside. My free Google email account was a private account that I used and didn’t give to anyone or publicize. So I don’t ever get any spam. Now my Google email address is out there for everyone to see. The address of my free home page is charcar.googlepages.com. Can you figure out what my Google email address is? You got it – firstname.lastname@example.org. My formerly private gmail address is out there now for everyone to see – here comes the spam! Well – it’s not really a problem. I already signed up for another free Google email account – but, sorry, it’s a secret!
Hop on line – sign up for your free home page and start posting.
