Tech Tip: Microsoft Office Templates
Microsoft Word has some great templates that can help you get started on just about any kind of project. Letters, memos, calendars, greeting cards, directories, brochures, reports, publications, resumes, are just some of the templates built into Word.
To access these templates, just click on the File menu and then click on New. Now depending on which version of Word you are using, you will get a window which gives you lists of different templates available on your computer.
Word 2002 and 2003 uses the pane system. That is, you will see a pane open on the right side of the screen and you will see Templates…On My Computer. Check out the many different templates that are available.
Uh, Oh… you don’t see a template you are looking for? Then you can click on Templates on Office Online. You will hop out to the web and find many more templates at the Microsoft Office Online website. The templates are organized in categories such as, Education, Healthcare and Wellness, Business and Legal, Holidays and Occasions, and several others.
When you download a template, it is opened in Word (or whatever other application it was designed for) and then all you have to do is fill in the information you want. The templates can be customized in any way that you want.
There are also templates for other Office applications, such as Publisher and Excel. All the templates work in the later versions of Office but many also work in earlier versions, such as Word 97. It tells you what version is require for each template.
